A home has collapsed amid a hearth and explosion in Croydon.

Firefighters have been known as to the scene at Galpin’s Highway in Thornton Heath shortly after 7am on Monday. London fireplace brigade (LFB) stated the reason for the fireplace and explosion was not identified.

Six fireplace engines and about 40 firefighters have been despatched to the scene the place a terrace home had collapsed.

LFB stated it had taken 13 calls concerning the incident since 7.08am.

Fireplace crews from Norbury, Mitcham, West Norwood, Woodside and surrounding fireplace stations have been despatched to the scene.
